Three 160-Slot Avalon Containers Balancing Grid Power in Raleigh

Project Description

Deploying our avalon 2u hydro container allowed an energy operator in Raleigh, North Carolina, to construct a 4.8MW site tied to the local utility grid. The utility required responsive load tuning to absorb regional solar power fluctuations. We delivered 3 units of the 1.6MW 20HQ model to house up to 480 Avalon A1566HA miners.

Each 160-slot container includes Canaan’s smart electrical cabinet control and internal distribution manifolds. Crews set the enclosures on concrete pads beside paired dry coolers. The electrical system modulates container power draw dynamically to match grid frequency signals, adjusting miner loads up or down without destabilizing water loop temperatures.

Commissioned across five weeks, the 4.8MW facility operates with a thirty-two percent grid balancing gain. By absorbing regional solar power fluctuations, automated load tuning cut site energy expenses by twenty-three percent, producing $1.1M in annual utility savings across all three containers.
